About the book...
The
Warning is a
science fiction story that is told when a message is found in the wreckage of a
UFO. That ‘warning’ is from a friendly
alien race, called the Hullaas, who come here to warn us of an impending attack
by a brutal invader. Those invaders, called Meeduans, view humans as food.
Those over 30 will be butchered for immediate consumption or frozen for future
use, while the younger people are to become part of a breeding program to
produce a renewable food supply… we will become like cattle.
The
weaponry on the alien craft is more advanced than those of Earth so they are
winning the war and our hope of defeating them seems impossible. We learn the
enemy individuals are smaller and not as strong as us, so we devise a counter
attack plan to fight the Meeduans face to face.
We will go inside their main spaceship to fight the individuals directly.
However, the Meeduans learn of our plan and change their tactics, which kills
most of our counter invasion force. Now, with just a skeleton group, we must come
up with a way to counter attack a force 100 times larger than our team.
Once we
fight our way onto their spaceship, we discover the alien hand held weapons are
not powerful or effective, which eventually allows us to use their own
technology against them. It is still not
a slam dunk, but in the end, our tenacity and determination enable us to stop
the invasion.
They have taken 10,000 of our young people captive, so we must now find a way
to return those folks back to what remains of the cities and towns on Earth.
The stories that unfold as we free those captives are sometimes heart breaking
because their captors did not treat them well… torturing and beating many of
them.
Although
the story is in the science fiction genre, it is not the typical ‘beam me up
Scotty’ scenario. It is realistic… more akin to Independence Day than Guardians
of the Galaxy. The characters and the scenes are believable and there are no special
powers or magic. Imagine if we were
actually invaded tomorrow… how would we fight back...that’s how the story is
told. There is a main storyline with a primary set of characters and heroes carried
throughout the book, but to show how the average person deals with the invasion
there are several sub-stories woven in.
Those sub-stories interact with the main story, allowing the reader to experience
ordinary people fighting the invaders as they try to protect their loved ones.
Most of those main characters portrayed in the battles are military types, but
not all. The heroes throughout the book are a mix of men and women, old and
young, military and civilian. I believe there are heroes in real life who might
be our brothers or neighbors, so I brought that concept into the story. Whether
it’s a ranch mom fighting for her children, a girl trying to protect her little
sister, or a father trying to keep the aliens from taking his daughters, the
stories feel realistic. Even the scenes where we go to the spaceship of the
alien invaders, feels like it is actually happening.
No good
story would be complete without a little humor, so I’ve thrown in a few well
placed smiles where I felt the plot needed to be lighter.
